Ghanaian artist Yaw Ray releases his new single “Survive,” a reflective song about life, uncertainty, and the battles people carry quietly while continuing to move forward.
The Story Behind “Survive”
At the heart of “Survive” is a simple truth: everyone is fighting something, even when it cannot be seen, and survival looks different for everyone. The song reflects on the questions we have about life, the things we cannot control, and the strength it takes to keep going when we do not know what comes next.
Some days we are grateful for everything we have, while other days we are simply trying to make it through. “Survive” does not try to answer all of life’s questions. Instead, it reminds us to appreciate the people we love, enjoy the moments we have, and make the most of the time we are given.
Yaw Ray shares, “Sometimes you do not have all the answers, and you cannot see what is ahead, but you can still keep moving. Life is going to bring its own struggles, and everyone is fighting something in their own way. Sometimes, you just have to survive.”
Story Behind The Cover Art
The cover brings that feeling to life through a small tricycle traveling along a long, wet and empty road, surrounded by tall grass and covered by fog. The road stretches into the distance, but the fog makes it impossible to see where it leads. It captures those moments in life when we are moving forward without knowing exactly what is waiting for us.
The tricycle may seem small against the road ahead, but it keeps moving. That is important to the story. We do not always have everything we need, and we do not always have the clarity we want, but we can still take the next step. The two people riding together also speak to the fact that although everyone’s journey is different, we do not always have to face it alone.
